PUK Officials’ meetings with lawyers.
Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the PUK,praised the national and professional role of lawyers during a major meeting held on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, which brought together a large number of legal professionals. The meeting was also attended by Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the PUK, and Talar Latif, Head of the PUK’s Legal Affairs Centre.
Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa underlined that “lawyers represent an active and influential segment of Kurdish society,” calling on them to “play a meaningful role in supporting the PUK’s programmes and to vote for List No. 222 in the upcoming parliamentary elections.” He stressed that “participation in the elections is a national duty that serves the wider goal of safeguarding the rights of the people of Kurdistan within the framework of the federal state.”
Sheikh Jaafar highlighted the PUK’s long history of sacrifice for Kurdistan, recalling that “the party has given more than 27,000 martyrs in defence of the Kurdish people and their achievements.” He reaffirmed that “the PUK remains steadfast in its struggle and in defending the Constitution, Article 140, and the rights of the Peshmerga forces.”
For his part, Rifaat Abdullah noted that “the PUK today holds a strong and influential position in Baghdad and enjoys the respect of Iraqi political forces,” adding that “the Iraqi Prime Minister recently commended the PUK’s role in bridging the gap between Baghdad and Erbil.”
In conclusion, Talar Latif emphasised “the importance of lawyers backing the PUK’s candidates,” stressing that “unity and broad participation will be the key to the success of List 222 in the forthcoming elections.”
