Minister of Agriculture, Begard Talabani.
The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Minister of Agriculture, Begard Talabani, affirmed that the revival of the Gomaspan Dam — now a source of pride for Erbil and the Kurdistan Regional Government — was made possible through the efforts of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Speaking to Kurdsat News, she explained that the Gomaspan Dam project, which had been abandoned and left incomplete, was reactivated under her initiative. “I worked tirelessly to restart this project, as it will transform Erbil into a tourist destination and serve as an important water reservoir,” she said.
She noted that while the project had long been neglected, its completion was later used for partisan and electoral purposes. “It must be remembered that the PUK is responsible for these achievements, which others later showcase during election campaigns,” she remarked.
Talabani went on to emphasise that PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani have never permitted discrimination in the delivery of services between regions, nor allowed any minister to act with bias in service provision.
“With the support of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, we were able to advance the agricultural sector, as he ensured all necessary facilities for investors in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja,” she continued. “He always insists that serving citizens is a duty, not a political or electoral tool.”
The Minister concluded by saying that the PUK has always prioritised the public interest over partisan gain. “The PUK has never compromised the welfare of our people. Supporting List 222 means safeguarding the Kurdistan Region and ensuring the protection of our shared national interest.”
