Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, and Mohammed Al-Hassan, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received on Monday, 10 November 2025, with Mohammed Al-Hassan, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, in Erbil, where they discussed the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections and other issues of mutual interest.
Both sides expressed hope that Tuesday’s elections [2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections] would be conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner, with significant participation from Iraqi citizens, including those in the Kurdistan Region, allowing them to determine the course of the country’s political process for the next four years.
Deputy PM Talabani emphasised the importance of this election for shaping the relations between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, noting that citizens of the Kurdistan Region expect constitutional solutions to outstanding issues. He stressed that future governments in Baghdad and Erbil must prioritise resolving critical matters, particularly the Iraqi federal budget and public salaries.
