Deputy PM, British CG Discuss Recent Floods and Government Formation

Deputy PM and British CG meet in Erbil.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Andrew Bizley, the British Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, on Thursday, 11 December 2025.
The meeting focused on the damages caused by the floods that struck Chamchamal district and the Garmian administration. The British Consul General offered his condolences to the families of the victims and those affected by the flooding.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the necessary measures had been taken to enable displaced residents to return to their homes, and that further steps would be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The discussion also touched on the formation of the next Kurdistan Regional Government. Qubad Talabani stressed that “the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is ready to resume negotiations on forming a government based on genuine partnership, and that services to be delivered to all areas of Kurdistan without discrimination.”
Regarding the formation of the new Iraqi government, he referred to his recent visit to Baghdad, saying: “During the visit, we outlined the PUK’s vision and programme to the Iraqi political forces, and emphasised the importance of forming a strong government capable of addressing Iraq’s challenges, including the issues between the Region and Baghdad, through understanding and in line with the Constitution.”
