Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met in Sulaymaniyah with the head of the Garmian administration, alongside a delegation representing various regional departments and institutions, to discuss sustainable solutions to ongoing challenges, as well as efforts to develop the economy and rebuild infrastructure.
Talabani expressed deep concern over the severe flooding that hit the Garmian area last week, resulting in significant damage to homes, property and public facilities. He also extended his condolences to the family of the child who lost his life in the incident in Kalar.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating and coordinating the work of all relevant departments and institutions within the Garmian administration to address infrastructure shortcomings that have contributed to recurring floods.
The meeting also explored strategies for economic development and reconstruction in Garmian. Mr Talabani stressed the need to strengthen the Region’s economic foundations and create further employment opportunities for local residents.
He called for industrial investment projects to be prioritised and reiterated his support for the competent authorities to fast-track the implementation of service projects and deliver concrete results on the ground.
