Karwan Gaznay, PUK Spokesperson.
Karwan Gaznay, Spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has described the latest meeting between the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on forming the next Kurdistan Regional Government as constructive and encouraging.
Speaking at a press conference covered by PUKMEDIA, Gaznay said the talks had created “a suitable foundation for the next phase” of negotiations, stressing that discussions were moving in a positive direction.
He noted that while the PUK and the KDP are separate political parties with differing visions and policies, there is a shared desire to bring together viewpoints in order to serve the people of Kurdistan and establish a fair and effective cabinet.
Gaznay explained that the government formation process is based on two main pillars. The first, he said, is agreeing on a clear and sound vision, along with practical mechanisms for governing the Kurdistan Region in a way that genuinely meets citizens’ needs.
He added that the PUK’s differences with the KDP are not centred on a single post or isolated issue. Rather, the party is seeking a meaningful partnership in governing the Region. Gaznay confirmed that the PUK has presented a new negotiation paper and made clear that it will stand by its proposals, insisting on its legitimate electoral entitlements and what it views as its rightful role in the next government.
