The Iraqi Agrometeorological Centre has forecast unsettled weather across Iraq in the coming days, warning of rainfall, fog and a noticeable drop in temperatures in several regions.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the centre said Monday’s weather will be partly to mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain expected overnight in parts of central Iraq and moderate to heavy rainfall in northern areas. Temperatures are set to fall slightly in central and southern regions, with a sharper decline in the north. Visibility is expected to range between 6 and 8 kilometres, decreasing to 2–4 kilometres during rainfall.
Maximum temperatures on Monday are forecast to range from 4°C in Sulaymaniyah and 5°C in Duhok to 17°C in Najaf and Basra, while Baghdad is expected to reach 15°C.
The centre added that Tuesday will bring generally clear weather with some cloud cover, alongside morning fog in central and northern regions that will gradually lift during the day. Southern areas may see partly cloudy skies with a chance of light rain. Temperatures will be slightly lower than the previous day, and dense fog could reduce visibility to below 500 metres in some locations.
Similar conditions are expected on Wednesday, with clear to partly cloudy skies and morning fog, followed by a slight further drop in temperatures. By Thursday, cloud cover is forecast to increase in central and northern Iraq, while the south remains clear. Dense fog may form in several areas before gradually dissipating, with temperatures rising slightly compared to midweek levels.
The Iraqi Agrometeorological Center advised motorists and travellers to exercise caution, particularly during periods of heavy rain and reduced visibility caused by fog.
