In a ceremony attended by Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Head of the Protection Council for the Higher Interests of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK); Qubad Talabani, Head of the Secretariat Bureau of President Mam Jalal; Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Member of the PUK Political Bureau; and other officials, leadership changes at the Erbil PUK headquarters were officially announced.
In a speech, Qubad Talabani praised the dedication and efforts of Dr Majid Hamadamin, outgoing supervisor of the Erbil headquarters of the PUK, for his service. He expressed confidence that Rebaz Berkoti, appointed as the new supervisor, will carry out his duties with utmost sincerity and commitment to serving Erbil and its residents.
He said: “During the last elections [Iraqi parliamentary elections], I witnessed Dr Hamadamin’s dedication. He willingly stepped down from his role to oversee an electoral constituency, demonstrating his commitment to the party’s interests above his own. He accepted this responsibility with pride during the elections.”
He added: “Although Dr Hamadamin will no longer serve as a supervisor, he will take on a new role. His experience, expertise, integrity, and dedication remain invaluable to both the PUK and the Kurdistan Region. We thank him for his hard work and service.”
Speaking about the newly appointed supervisor, Rebaz Berkoti, Talabani said: “We have long known Berkoti, just as we know Dr. Hamadamin, but we came to know him even better during the last elections. He carried multiple responsibilities, and we were in daily contact with him, during which he once again demonstrated his sincerity and competence.”
He also underlined Berkoti's heroism as a Peshmerga and his service in the Erbil provincial council as the PUK's representative, noting his unwavering commitment to the party.
Talabani continued: “I will remain a colleague and supporter. President Bafel congratulated Berkoti at the Leadership Council's meeting and will continue to support him in this challenging role. He plans to visit the third headquarters in person at a later date.”
He concluded by emphasising the PUK’s growing influence in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region. He stated that the leadership changes in Erbil are intended to revitalise the party, mobilise loyal cadres, and initiate reforms starting from the Erbil headquarters.
