Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday emphasised the importance of an immediate cessation of military operations and the adoption of dialogue as the sole means of addressing outstanding issues, in order to spare the region and the world the risks posed by continued conflict.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, the two leaders discussed the latest developments in the security situation during a telephone call, including what was described as a dangerous escalation threatening the wider region.
The statement noted that both sides stressed the importance of an immediate cessation of military operations and the adoption of dialogue as the sole means of addressing outstanding issues, in order to spare the region and the world the risks posed by continued conflict.
The statement concluded by urging the international community, United Nations institutions, and major powers to assume their responsibilities and intensify efforts to curb the escalation, thereby contributing to the preservation of regional and global peace and security.
