Iraq has suffered the most during the ongoing U.S.–Israeli war with Iran, becoming the only country to be struck by air attacks from all three nations.
Over the past 15 days, Iraq has faced severe economic losses. Its oil exports have declined significantly, while the country continues to endure missile and drone attacks from multiple sides.
Bahjat Ahmad, an energy and oil expert, told PUKMEDIA: “The U.S.–Israeli war with Iran has closed much of the Strait of Hormuz, reducing Gulf oil exports to the world. Currently, some 20 million barrels less oil are being exported from the Strait to Europe.”
He added: “Iraq’s share of the decline is included, and its oil exports have decreased alongside other damage to oil fields.”
Hundreds of airstrikes have been carried out across Iraq since the outbreak of the conflict. Iran has conducted some of these attacks under the stated aim of targeting alleged U.S. and Israeli installations, while the United States and Israel have struck bases belonging to the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi).
As a result, Iraq has become the first country to face attacks from all three parties involved in the conflict.
In response to the recent attacks on Iraq, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani addressed Iraqi military commanders at the outset of the conflict.
“We are against war and will not allow Iraq to be subjugated by any country. We strongly condemn the attacks carried out by the three nations under various pretexts,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that all countries must respect Iraq’s sovereignty and refrain from endangering the nation’s peace. “Iraq is not part of the war in the region,” he added.
