The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has sent a congratulatory message to Nizar Amedi following his election as President of the Republic of Iraq by the Iraqi parliament.
The Political Bureau's message to Amedi said:
“Our brother and comrade, His Excellency President Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amedi,
On the occasion of your election as President of the Federal Republic of Iraq, we extend our warmest congratulations and wish you every success.
The presidency of the republic is a significant and challenging responsibility, and we are confident that, as a loyal student of the school of the late leader President Mam Jalal, and of the national and democratic approach of a constitutional federal Iraq, you will succeed in this task and uphold the confidence of the members of the Iraqi parliament.
On this occasion, we also congratulate our negotiating team, led by Mr Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK, who worked diligently and successfully engaged with political parties to secure the victory of the PUK candidate.
We further extend our congratulations to the Iraqi parliament and to the political forces of the country, who have succeeded in fulfilling this constitutional and democratic entitlement, and who are now moving towards addressing the remaining obligations and forming the new government.
We hope that your presidency will help pave the way towards resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government, thereby strengthening the spirit of unity and understanding among all parties.
Congratulations once again.”
