PUK MPs and Hiwa Hospital Representatives Hold Talks at Iraqi Health Ministry.
A delegation of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) parliamentarians, alongside representatives from Hiwa Hospital, has met with officials at Iraq’s Ministry of Health in Baghdad in an effort to address ongoing medicine shortages and reduce pressure on patients receiving treatment at the facility.
Speaking to PUKMEDIA, Dr Bryar Rashid, a member of the PUK bloc in the Iraqi parliament, said the meeting was held in the presence of the Iraqi Minister of Health and included several MPs and hospital representatives.
He explained that the discussions focused on the obstacles and bureaucratic delays affecting the hospital’s access to essential medicines.
“We clearly highlighted the procedural hurdles and routine delays in the hospital’s pharmacy department,” he said. “After sustained discussion, it was agreed to streamline procedures so medicines can reach patients more quickly.”
According to Rashid, the meeting also secured commitments to increase the supply of medicines to Hiwa Hospital and ensure a wider range of essential and specialised drugs are made available.
He confirmed that future planning includes boosting the availability of medicines further by 2027.
Dr Rashid said the outcome followed a series of previous engagements with the Health Minister, aimed at strengthening coordination between the ministry and the hospital.
“This progress was the result of continued dialogue to reach a direct understanding between the Ministry and the hospital, ensuring better service for citizens and the health sector,” he added.
