PUK VP’s media office
PUK VP Rifaat Abdullah.
Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a message marking the anniversary of the founding of Kurdish journalism.
The statement reads:
On the anniversary of the birth of Kurdish journalism, I extend my warmest congratulations to all journalists and media professionals who have contributed to the advancement of the Kurdish press. I hope they will continue to play an active role in the social, political and cultural development of Kurdistan by delivering accurate and professional reporting.
The publication of the first Kurdish newspaper holds great significance, reflecting a historic aspiration to build a national identity and a shared consciousness in defence of our people’s rights.
I call on Kurdish journalists and media institutions to uphold the principles and ethics of journalism, and to avoid defamation and the spread of misinformation to audiences.
The PUK has consistently remained committed to protecting journalists, ensuring an appropriate working environment, and safeguarding freedom of expression and the press.
Peace be upon the souls of the martyred journalists and the pioneers of Kurdish journalism.
Rifaat Abdullah
Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
