PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and Iraqi Prime Minister-Designate Ali al-Zaidi.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
The meeting was attended by Qubad Talabani, Darbaz Kosrat Rasul and Khalid Shwani, members of the PUK Political Bureau, as well as Abbas Razi, Secretary-General of the Coordination Framework.
The discussions emphasised the need to accelerate the efforts of political parties in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to form a strong, national, and service-oriented government grounded in the constitution.
President Bafel welcomed al-Zaidi to Sulaymaniyah and expressed pleasure that a young figure has been tasked with such a senior position in Iraq. He reaffirmed the PUK’s support for the Prime Minister-designate.
The meeting also underscored the importance of resolving outstanding issues between Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government. President Bafel stated: "Our objective is to establish a strong government capable of ensuring a dignified standard of living for citizens, addressing economic and security challenges, and safeguarding the rights of all Iraqis, especially the Kurds, in compliance with the constitution."
For his part, al-Zaidi expressed his pleasure at visiting Sulaymaniyah and thanked President Bafel for the PUK’s support. He emphasised the importance of continued coordination between all parties to facilitate the formation of the new Iraqi government.
