The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs has denied reports that United States support for Peshmerga forces has been suspended, describing such claims as unfounded and affirming that assistance programmes continue in line with agreements signed with the U.S. Department of War.
In a statement, the Ministry said that “rumours have circulated in recent days alleging that U.S. aid to the Peshmerga forces has been halted,” stressing that “these reports are incorrect”. It added that support continues on the basis of mutual understandings between the Pentagon and the Ministry, aimed at advancing reform efforts and the unification of Peshmerga forces.
The Ministry clarified that any suspension applies only to assistance related to combat operations against the Islamic State (ISIS), citing a reduction in the group’s activity and threat level.
It further emphasised that U.S. financial and logistical support remains in place according to a defined timetable, noting that the current agreement is valid until September 2026. The statement concluded by indicating that discussions are expected in the coming period to establish a new agreement to ensure continued cooperation and support for Peshmerga forces.
