PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and KIU SG Salahuddin Muhammed Bahauddin.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Salahuddin Muhammed Bahauddin, Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU), in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
During the meeting, which was attended by Salar Lala Sarhad, Supervisor of the PUK's Kurdistani Relations Board, the two sides discussed the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, where they stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and mutual understanding among political parties and forces in order to overcome current challenges. SG Bahauddin also presented an initiative aimed at resolving the ongoing political deadlock in the Kurdistan Region.
The two sides agreed that prolonging the political stalemate does not serve the public interest and emphasised the need for serious efforts to remove existing obstacles through a responsible national approach focused on serving citizens.
President Bafel stated that the PUK has always supported, and will continue to support, any initiative driven by sincerity and aimed at serving the interests of the people of Kurdistan.
As the initiative was initially directed to President Bafel by the KIU Secretary General, the PUK President also decided that PUK-affiliated media outlets should contribute to easing tensions and avoid becoming part of escalating political disputes.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of coordination and strengthening relations between the PUK and the KIU in a manner that better serves the public interest and the citizens of the Kurdistan Region.
