PUK and Armenia Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Sulaymaniyah

Dr Yousif Goran welcomes Rafayel Movsesyan to Sulaymaniyah.

Dr Yousif Goran, member of the Political Bureau and Head of the Centre for General Studies of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Rafayel Movsesyan, the Armenian Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, in Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the historical relations between the Kurdish and Armenian peoples, as well as ways to further strengthen ties between the Kurdistan Region and the Republic of Armenia.

The Armenian Consul General highlighted the importance of these relations and noted plans to expand cultural and educational activities in Sulaymaniyah. He also praised the role of Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, and his ongoing efforts to enhance relations between the two sides.

He further affirmed Armenia’s interest in expanding trade and economic cooperation with the Kurdistan Region, in a way that serves the interests of both peoples.
