President Amedi Stresses Transparency and Support for National Development

President Nizar Amedi declared his financial assets to the Integrity Commission on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
This step reflects his commitment to the legal procedures governing financial disclosure, contributing to the reinforcement of integrity and transparency, and strengthening public confidence in official institutions.
He affirmed that Iraq continues its efforts to consolidate stability and advance development.
Cooperation with the United Nations and Support for Development
In addition, President Nizar Amedi received the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Mr Ghulam Mohammad Ishaq, together with his accompanying delegation, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad on Thursday, 21 May 2026. The delegation extended their congratulations to him on assuming the presidency.
The meeting discussed ways of enhancing cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations, particularly in supporting development and humanitarian programmes, and coordinating efforts aimed at consolidating stability and advancing reform plans within the country. The President stressed the importance of continuing the partnership with the United Nations, praising the organisation’s role in supporting Iraq and its institutions.
He noted that Iraq remains committed to consolidating stability and strengthening development across various sectors, underlining the importance of United Nations support for governmental efforts and programmes aimed at achieving sustainable development and creating an environment conducive to progress and prosperity.
For his part, Mr Ghulam Mohammad Ishaq expressed the United Nations’ appreciation for the existing cooperation with Iraq, affirming the organisation’s commitment to continued coordination with the relevant parties in a manner that supports national priorities and strengthens joint efforts across various fields.
Protecting Diversity and Strengthening National Partnership
President Nizar Amedi received a delegation from the Iraqi Turkmen Islamic Union, headed by the Union’s Secretary-General, Mr Jassim Muhammad Jaafar Al-Bayati, on Thursday. The delegation conveyed their congratulations to him on assuming the presidency.
During the meeting, the general situation in the country was discussed, with the President emphasising the importance of consolidating political stability and strengthening national unity among Iraq’s diverse communities.
He affirmed his commitment to safeguarding Iraq’s rich diversity and stressed the necessity of the participation of all components of Iraqi society in nation-building and in strengthening the spirit of national partnership. He praised the national role played by Turkmen figures and groups in reinforcing Iraqi unity.
For their part, the members of the delegation expressed their gratitude to the President for the warm reception, affirming their support for all efforts aimed at establishing stability and strengthening national understanding among the Iraqi people.
Praise for the National Team’s Qualification for the World Cup
President Nizar Amedi today received the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, who congratulated him on assuming his duties. The President expressed his appreciation for the congratulations.
During the meeting, President Nizar Amedi highlighted the significant role of football in Iraq, noting its immense popularity and its ability to unite the nation while inspiring joy and hope. He praised the national achievement of the Iraqi national team in qualifying for the World Cup finals, describing it as a reflection of the will of the Iraqi people and the determination of the country’s youth to achieve success and elevate Iraq’s standing on the international stage.
The President affirmed the Presidency’s support for efforts aimed at developing Iraqi sport and advancing the status of football, expressing his hope for further successes worthy of Iraq’s sporting history and capable of fulfilling the ambitions of its supporters.
