Iraq's Ministry of Oil announced on Saturday that petrol production has been increased to 40 million litres per day in order to meet rising domestic demand.
Hussain Talib, Director General of the Oil Products Distribution Company, which operates under the Ministry of Oil, told Iraq's state media (INA) that the company had implemented proactive measures to secure strategic reserves of oil derivatives and gas, in line with directives issued by the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, particularly in preparation for periods of increased fuel consumption during holidays and special occasions.
Talib explained that both premium and regular petrol supplied to the domestic market are produced locally, stressing that the available quantities are sufficient to meet national demand.
He added that fuel consumption increased significantly during the Eid al-Adha holiday due to heightened travel and movement by families across the country. In response, the company supplied additional quantities to meet the growing demand.
According to Talib, the Oil Products Distribution Company normally supplies approximately 33 million litres of petrol per day for local consumption. However, over the past two days, supplies were increased to 40 million litres daily to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability and prevent shortages for citizens.
