The Socialist International (SI) has congratulated the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on the occasion of its 51st founding anniversary, stating that the PUK has stood as a beacon of democracy, human rights, and the self-determination of the Kurdish people values embodied above all by its late founder and former President of Iraq, Mam Jalal Talabani.
The SI message read:
"Socialist International Congratulates the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on its 51st Anniversary
On behalf of the Socialist International, we extend our warmest congratulations to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on the occasion of its 51st founding anniversary.
Since its establishment on the 1 June 1975, the PUK has stood as a beacon of democracy, human rights, and the self-determination of the Kurdish people values embodied above all by its late founder and former President of Iraq, Mam Jalal Talabani, whose distinguished service as Vice President of the Socialist International deepened the bonds between our organisations and whose enduring legacy continues to inspire generations.
We wish the PUK and the Kurdish people continued strength and success in the years ahead.
