President Amedi Discusses Stronger Ties with Japan and Norway

President Amedi receives letter from Japanese PM.

President Nizar Amedi has received a congratulatory message from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the occasion of assuming the presidency. The message was conveyed during a meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Iraq, Akira Endo, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad on Thursday, 4 June 2026.

In her message, Prime Minister Takaichi extended her congratulations on behalf of the Japanese government and people, wishing President Amedi success in his new role. She highlighted the importance Japan places on its relationship with Iraq, describing the country as a key contributor to peace and stability in the Middle East.

The Japanese Prime Minister also reaffirmed her country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Iraq across a range of sectors and expressed confidence that Iraq would continue its efforts to achieve stability and prosperity under President Amedi’s leadership.

During the meeting, President Amedi expressed his appreciation for the message and asked Ambassador Endo to convey his greetings to the Prime Minister and the Japanese people. He emphasised the importance of deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in ways that support economic and investment partnerships and contribute to Iraq’s development. He also stressed the need for continued coordination to promote security and stability across the region.

The President reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships based on mutual interests.

Later in the day, President Amedi received the Norwegian Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq, Alexander Leirfall, and his accompanying delegation at the Peace Palace.

The meeting focused on opportunities to enhance Iraqi-Norwegian relations and expand areas of cooperation and coordination in support of shared interests and stronger ties between the two countries.

President Amedi reiterated Iraq’s commitment to building constructive relations with its international partners on the basis of mutual respect and common interests, while supporting regional stability and broader opportunities for cooperation among nations.
