Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi has stressed the importance of cooperation with the private sector in the marketing of petroleum products and in ensuring a steady supply of fuel and petroleum inputs for industrial projects.
This came during the first meeting of the Ministerial Council for Energy, held on Thursday, 4 June 2026, and chaired by Prime Minister Al-Zaidi. The Council reviewed a number of agenda items and approved a series of recommendations to be submitted to the Cabinet for further consideration.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, as reported by PUKMEDIA, the Council discussed Iraq’s energy situation in light of developments in global and regional markets, and their impact on the country’s crude oil export capacity. It also reviewed government measures aimed at addressing these challenges and strengthening Iraq’s export capabilities.
The statement added that the Council examined the Ministry of Oil’s plans for cooperation with the private sector in the marketing sector, as well as global market conditions and Iraq’s position within OPEC, including compliance with production quota requirements in line with market needs to maximise returns from oil revenues.
In addition, the meeting discussed pricing mechanisms for petroleum products supplied to industrial projects and key production inputs, with the aim of promoting social fairness, creating employment opportunities, and supporting private sector industrial growth.
It also reviewed fuel supply contracts and the provision of fuel to power generation plants of various types, in order to maintain energy supply levels and ensure the continued delivery of electricity to cities and districts.
