PUK General Studies Centre Holds Talks with Leading Turkish Research Institutions

PUK General Studies Centre's meeting with the leading Turkish research institutions.
Dr Yousif Goran, Head of the General Studies Centre of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), held a meeting in Sulaymaniyah with Dr Kadir Temiz, President of the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (ORSAM), Serhan Afacan, President of the Centre for Iranian Studies (IRAM), and Mehmet Aleca, representative of the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA) in Türkiye.
The meeting was attended by Dr Omed Rafiq, Head of the PUK Strategic Research Centre, and researcher Sana Nawzad.
Discussions focused on the latest political developments in the region and Iraq, the peace process in Türkiye and the wider region, relations between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Region, as well as ties between Ankara and Sulaymaniyah.
The meeting highlighted the importance of research institutions in promoting dialogue and cooperation, stressing the need to strengthen ties between the Future Research Centre, the General Studies Headquarters, and regional think tanks in support of stability and peace efforts across the region.
The meeting also addressed the PUK’s perspectives on developments in the Kurdistan Region, its relations with Baghdad and Türkiye, and its efforts to maintain regional stability amid tensions surrounding the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Participants further discussed the role of the PUK in the peace process, the PKK’s disarmament initiative, and the importance of peaceful coexistence among communities, particularly with regard to the Turkmen population in Kirkuk and obtaining the post of Kirkuk governor, which the delegation of Turkish research centres also expressed appreciation for.
For their part, representatives of the participating centres stressed the importance of joint cooperation in the fields of academia, research, conferences, and future collaborative projects.
