Today, Thursday, 11 June 2026, the veteran freedom fighter and prominent political figure Omar Sheikhmous, a founding member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), visited the mausoleum of President Jalal Talabani, where he was warmly welcomed by the Secretariat Bureau.
After laying a wreath as a gesture of respect and loyalty, Sheikhmous signed the memorial book, paying tribute to President Mam Jalal’s distinguished legacy and inspirational leadership within the Kurdish liberation movement. He wrote: “Today, more than ever, we are in need of his politics and vision to guide and unite our efforts in serving the public interest and our people.”
The Secretariat Bureau of President Mam Jalal commended the lifelong struggle of Omar Sheikhmous, describing him as a patriotic leader devoted to his homeland and people, and a longstanding comrade of President Mam Jalal who remained steadfast throughout every stage of the struggle. The Bureau noted that his contributions form an integral part of the proud history of the Kurdish national movement and the New Revolution.
