Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), visited St Joseph’s Church in Sulaymaniyah, where he was received by Mar Paulos III Nona, Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and worldwide, and Yousif Toma, Archbishop of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah for the Chaldean Church.
The meeting was also attended by Mahmoud Sangawi, Jalal Sheikh Naji, President of the Parastin and Zanyari/Zanyari Agency, Jaza Sayed Majid, Head of the PUK's Social Board, and Pola Sirwan Talabani, a member of the PUK Leadership Council.
During the meeting, President Bafel congratulated Patriarch Mar Paulos III Nona on his enthronement as head of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and around the world, and welcomed him to Sulaymaniyah.
“The Kurdistan Region will always remain a cradle of coexistence,” President Bafel said. “We emphasise strengthening the spirit of brotherhood among all religions and ethnic communities.”
President Bafel also reaffirmed the PUK’s full support for Patriarch Mar Paulos III Nona in carrying out his responsibilities and initiatives.
