Iraqi PM Orders Creation of Account for Recovered Corruption Funds, Says Operation Will Continue

Haider al-Abadi, spokesperson for Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, announced on Monday, 29 June 2026, that the Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Finance to establish a dedicated account for depositing funds recovered from individuals implicated in corruption. He also confirmed that Operation Dawn Crackdown will continue.

Speaking to the Iraq's state media (INA), the spokesperson said Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi had instructed the Ministry of Finance to create a special account for funds recovered from those involved in illicit enrichment.

He added that the government remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to safeguard public funds and ensure state institutions can carry out their duties effectively.

The spokesperson said the government has adopted a comprehensive approach to addressing challenges, implementing institutional reforms, and combating corruption. He revealed that Operation Dawn Crackdown has so far led to the arrest of 21 suspects, while efforts are continuing to apprehend others.

He further stated that the end of September will be the deadline for the surrender of weapons, coinciding with the withdrawal of the international coalition, stressing that Operation Dawn Crackdown will continue without interruption.

The spokesperson also noted that confessions made by those arrested have led investigators to additional corruption networks, identifying further individuals as well as larger sums of money linked to the cases.

He emphasised that the government's anti-corruption campaign marks a significant departure from previous efforts, adding that protecting public funds remains a national responsibility that is not influenced by individuals or changing circumstances.
