Geli Kurdistan Channel has marked its 35th anniversary, with senior leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) extending congratulations to the channel’s director, journalists and staff and highlighting its longstanding role in Kurdish media and public life.
PUK President Praises Geli Kurdistan’s Role in Kurdish Media
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, sent a congratulatory message to the director, journalists and staff of Geli Kurdistan Channel on the anniversary of its launch.
President Bafel described Geli Kurdistan as the first Kurdish television channel established after the Uprising and a pioneer of national media, wishing it continued progress and greater success.
He said the channel was not merely a media project when it was established during a difficult period, but represented the beginning of a cultural revolution and a historic turning point founded by President Mam Jalal.
“Under arduous circumstances, this institution became the true voice of the people, a defender of social peace, and a bridge connecting our nation with the outside world,” Talabani said.
He added that he was pleased to see the channel continuing its journey with the same sense of responsibility while embracing contemporary renewal.
PUK President described Geli Kurdistan as “a strong bastion” for defending the rights of the public and conveying the message of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
PUK Political Bureau Calls for Continued Commitment to Journalistic Ethics
The PUK Political Bureau also congratulated the Director General and media personnel of Geli Kurdistan Channel on the 35th anniversary of the channel’s establishment, wishing them continued success.
In its message, the Politburo expressed hope that the channel would continue to embrace innovation and modernity amid today’s rapidly changing media landscape, while upholding its commitment to truth, public awareness, and the delivery of accurate news and information.
The Politburo also stressed the importance of maintaining a strong sense of responsibility towards journalistic ethics and professional principles.
PUK Vice President Highlights Geli Kurdistan’s National Role
Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, also congratulated the director, media personnel and staff of Geli Kurdistan Channel on the anniversary of its launch, extending her wishes to the channel’s viewers and listeners.
Abdullah described Geli Kurdistan as another achievement in the PUK’s long history of struggle for the people of Kurdistan, noting that it was the first television channel established using local capabilities and became a platform for conveying the voice and image of the people of Kurdistan.
He said that, at a time of information overload and increasing departure from the fundamental objectives of journalism, Geli Kurdistan continues to deliver its messages with balance and objectivity, demonstrating responsibility in its coverage and reporting while adhering to accepted media standards and journalistic ethics.
“Geli Kurdistan is not merely a channel for reporting news and events, but a true school for instilling high national values and preserving the authenticity of our people,” Abdullah said.
