Iran Says Ukrainian Strike on Commercial Vessel in Caspian Sea Kills Sailor

Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea triggered an explosion that killed one sailor and injured another.

Tehran condemned the strike as an act of aggression, warning that it would take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and security. The ministry also accused Ukraine of attempting to expand the Russia–Ukraine war beyond its existing battlefield.

The statement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukrainian forces had struck a Russian warship and vessels used for transporting Iran-linked military cargo in the Caspian Sea.
