PUK VP Rifaat Abdullah.
Rifaat Abdullah, Deputy President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has issued a message marking the anniversary of the genocide committed against the Yazidi community in Shingal (Sinjar), paying tribute to the victims and reaffirming support for international recognition of the atrocity.
The message read:
“We pay tribute to all the victims of the genocide committed against the Yazidi Kurds in Shingal, a horrific crime perpetrated by ISIS terrorists in an attempt to erase the Yazidis’ national and religious identity.
The terrorists employed every means to violate humanitarian and religious values, seeking to destroy the region’s demographic fabric, culture of coexistence and centuries-old religious heritage. However, the courageous Yazidis of Shingal and its surrounding areas stood firm in defence of humanity, peaceful coexistence and the values of mutual respect and acceptance.
On this solemn occasion, we renew our call for international recognition of the Yazidi genocide. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting and protecting the Yazidi community, and consider serving them a national and humanitarian duty shared by all.
Peace be upon the souls of the victims of the Yazidi genocide. Shame on the terrorists.”
Rifaat Abdullah
Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
