Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit South Korea from 19 to 20 August, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, marking his first official visit to the country in five years.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to receive Wang on Thursday at the Blue House, where they will discuss bilateral relations and regional affairs. Lee will also convey his regards to Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to South Korean presidential office.
Wang is also expected to hold talks and attend a luncheon with National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac. Discussions will cover South Korea-China relations, developments on the Korean Peninsula and other regional and international issues, the presidential office said.
Upon his arrival on Wednesday, Wang is scheduled to hold talks and attend a dinner with Foreign Minister Cho Hyun.
The visit comes ahead of the APEC summit in Shenzhen in November and is expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to assess progress in restoring bilateral ties and prepare for the next phase of high-level exchanges, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said.
