PUK President Offers Condolences on Death of Mahdi Zana

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has sent a message of condolence to Leyla Zana, as well as the family, friends and loved ones of veteran Kurdish figure Mahdi Zana following his death.

In his message, President Bafel said:

Dear Ms Leyla Zana,

Family of the late Mr Mahdi Zana,

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the veteran Kurdish struggler, Mr Mahdi Zana.

Mr Mahdi was a steadfast symbol of our people’s resistance, courage and resilience. He devoted his life to defending the language, identity and legitimate rights of the Kurdish people.

The loss of this great man is a profound sorrow for every Kurd. Your struggle, together with that of Mr Mahdi, represents a glorious chapter that will forever remain in the hearts and memory of our nation.

Please accept our deepest condolences. As always, we share in your grief and sorrow. We pray that God grants Mr Mahdi eternal peace in Paradise and gives you, his family and friends patience and strength during this difficult time.
