Kurdistan Vice President Praises Italy’s Support for Peshmerga Forces

Sheikh Mustafa expressed his appreciation for Captain Rubino in a meeting held on Tuesday.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Captain Francesco Rubino and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, marking the completion of Rubino’s duties as commander of the Italian Special Forces within the Global Coalition against ISIS.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mustafa expressed his appreciation for Captain Rubino and his team for their efforts during their mission in the Kurdistan Region, wishing him success in his future endeavours.

He also praised Italy’s military cooperation with the Kurdistan Region, particularly its contribution to strengthening the military capabilities of the Peshmerga forces and establishing a dedicated training base.

The Vice President also welcomed the new Italian military team and congratulated its members on assuming their duties, reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s support for further strengthening and developing relations between the two sides.
