The US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched strikes on targets in southeastern Iran on Tuesday evening, September 1, 2026, with several explosions reported in the area.
CENTCOM said it had struck targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), describing the attacks as a response to recent IRGC assaults on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US military personnel in the region.
A US official confirmed in a statement to the press that US forces were continuing to conduct strikes against IRGC targets inside Iran.
Axios, citing a US official, reported that US airstrikes had targeted Iranian positions near the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported five explosions in the village of Masan on Qeshm Island and four further blasts in the Strait of Hormuz. The Tasnim news agency reported eight explosions along the southern coast of Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province, southern Iran.
Fars News Agency reported explosions in the cities of Konarak and Chabahar in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, as well as in Bandar Abbas and Sirik in Hormozgan province. There has been no official government comment so far.
The deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchestan confirmed that four projectiles struck areas near the cities of Chabahar and Konarak in southeastern Iran.
The US State Department urged Americans currently in the Middle East to exercise “extreme caution”, warning them to be prepared for possible flight cancellations and airspace closures.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tehran “will not leave any attack unanswered”.
The latest strikes come after the US and Iran resumed exchanging fire early on Monday morning, following more than a month of relative calm. The US carried out strikes on Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Iranian missile and drone attacks on what Tehran said were US military sites in the UAE and Jordan.
