Kirkuk Media Network is marking its 15th anniversary, with its supervisor and director reaffirming the channel’s commitment to serving all ethnic and religious communities in Kirkuk and remaining a platform for peaceful coexistence.
Established 15 years ago as a gift from the late President Mam Jalal to the people of Kirkuk, the network remains the only television channel in the city to broadcast programmes and news in four languages: Kurdish, Arabic, Turkmen and Syriac.
President Mam Jalal’s Gift to Kirkuk
When the channel was launched, the late President Mam Jalal described Kirkuk TV as another gift from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to the city and its people.
He said the launch represented an important step in Kirkuk’s broadcasting and cultural development, while expressing hope that the channel would help strengthen the spirit of coexistence among the city’s diverse communities.
Mam Jalal stressed that Kirkuk’s future depended on harmony and peaceful coexistence among its different communities.
Serving Kirkuk’s Diverse Communities
Emad Nasih, Supervisor of Kirkuk Media Network, told PUKMEDIA, that the channel would maintain the same media policy in the coming period by serving all communities and continuing to act as a platform for coexistence.
He said Kirkuk TV initially began local broadcasting in 2004 on the directive of Mam Jalal, providing content in Kurdish, Arabic, Turkmen and Syriac. The channel quickly gained popularity among residents of Kirkuk.
Nasih added that the channel moved to satellite broadcasting in 2011 and has continued along the path established by Mam Jalal, promoting the PUK’s message of peaceful coexistence and his ‘bouquet of flowers’ vision.
A Platform for Peace and Unity
Soran Dawoodi, Director of Kirkuk Satellite Channel, told PUKMEDIA that the network reflects the voices and perspectives of Kirkuk’s diverse ethnic communities.
He said that throughout its broadcasting history, the channel had provided professional services to its audience across a range of fields, while promoting the ‘bouquet of flowers’ vision and spreading messages of peace and unity.
Dawoodi noted that the establishment of Kirkuk Satellite TV addressed an important need in Kirkuk’s diverse society, which includes Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen and Chaldo-Assyrians.
He reaffirmed the channel’s commitment to professional journalism and its responsibility to provide accurate and credible coverage to its audience.
Over the past 15 years, Kirkuk TV has continued to operate with professionalism and dedication, upholding journalistic standards while serving as a voice for the people of Kirkuk and an inclusive platform for the city’s diverse communities.
