US President speaks to journalists at the White House.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States is retaining large quantities of ammunition rather than selling it to other countries, saying the country is currently producing munitions at unprecedented levels and has “massive” stockpiles far exceeding what could be used in a war with Iran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said some people were refusing to provide accurate accounts of the US military operation against Iran, claiming that certain reports did not reflect what had actually happened.
On Ukraine, Trump said former US President Joe Biden had provided Kyiv with far more ammunition than the United States had used in the war with Iran. He added that Europe would ultimately pay for the ammunition supplied by Washington to Ukraine.
Trump also confirmed that ammunition sales to US allies would resume soon, saying the United States was prepared for any contingency due to the significant increase in ammunition production and the size of its military stockpiles.
Addressing what he described as inaccurate reporting on the operation in Iran, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the US had “massive quantities” of medium- and high-quality munitions, far more than it could possibly use in the conflict with Iran or in any other potential war.
He added that the United States was producing munitions at “unprecedented levels”, stockpiling them and preparing for any contingency. Trump said the US was keeping the ammunition for itself rather than selling it to other countries, but that sales to allies would resume soon.
Trump further claimed that the Biden administration had given Ukraine more ammunition free of charge than the United States had used in Iran. He also said that hundreds of billions of dollars had been provided to Ukraine and NATO, arguing that Europe should have covered the cost and stating that Washington would seek to recover the money.
