The US Iran

US President Donald Trump has described the sanctions imposed on Iran as highly successful, as the US Treasury Department announced new sanctions targeting Tehran. Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy claimed it had seized a US unmanned submarine at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said that “Iran no longer has any chance of acquiring a nuclear weapon”, adding that “the sanctions are very successful”.

He further said that “the sanctions on Iran are very strong and effective and are achieving results beyond expectations”, noting that “we have severely punished Iran and dealt it powerful blows”.

“We have inflicted the harshest punishment on Iran, and today it no longer has any chance of acquiring a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, adding that “no one expected things to go this successfully in Iran”.

Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against 36 targets linked to Iran’s aviation sector, including 27 airlines, as part of a campaign aimed at further tightening Tehran’s financial isolation and restricting its access to aircraft and sensitive technologies.

The Treasury Department said its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had targeted the airlines over their alleged role in supporting Iranian government activities and transporting weapons, personnel and illicit cargo.

The sanctions target Iran Air Tour, Iran Aseman Airlines, Kish Air, Qeshm Air and Zagros Airlines, among other Iranian carriers.

The measures also target eight companies and one individual in several countries who, according to the Treasury Department, provided services to Mahan Air, which is already under US sanctions, or helped the airline procure US-made aircraft and aviation components through front companies and indirect shipping routes.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that companies and individuals who continue doing business with the sanctioned Iranian airlines risk being cut off from the global financial system.

Revolutionary Guard Claims Seizure of US Drone Submarine

In a related development, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced that it had seized a US unmanned submarine at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said: “The IRGC Navy successfully captured one of the US Navy’s most advanced and sophisticated unmanned submarines at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.”

The statement added that “the advanced US submarine is equipped with cutting-edge underwater technology and was delivered to the US Navy in 2025”.
