President Mam Jalal and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani paid tribute to the late President Mam Jalal, describing him as a great national leader who devoted his life to defending the rights of the Kurdish people and serving Iraq.
Nine years ago today, on 3 October 2017, former Iraqi President and national leader Jalal Talabani, widely known as Mam Jalal, passed away in Berlin, Germany, at the age of 83.
"On the anniversary of the passing of President Mam Jalal Talabani, we pay tribute to a great national leader who devoted his life to defending the rights of the Kurdish people and serving Iraq. During the most difficult periods, he remained a voice for dialogue, understanding and cooperation," Nechirvan Barzani said in a statement on social media.
"The best way to honour Mam Jalal’s memory and legacy is to make dialogue, solidarity and unity the means of resolving conflicts, while working together to protect the rights and achievements of the Kurdish people and strengthen partnership and stability in Iraq," he added.
