PUK MP Discusses Cancer Care And Medical Equipment With Iraqi Authorities.
As part of ongoing efforts by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi parliament to improve cancer treatment services in the Kurdistan Region, a series of meetings have been held in Baghdad with relevant authorities.
Dr Bryar Rashid, a member of the Iraqi parliament representing the PUK bloc, told PUKMEDIA that he had met with the chairperson and members of the board of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Baghdad, and the Supreme Cancer Council at Iraq's Ministry of Health.
During the meetings, Dr Rashid stressed the importance of ensuring that the Kurdistan Region is included in all projects and training courses delivered by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Iraq.
He said the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission had expressed its readiness to coordinate with the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Health to provide advanced medical equipment through a cost-sharing arrangement under which the IAEA would cover half of the cost.
Dr Rashid added that a further meeting had been held to strengthen cooperation between the KRG Ministry of Health and the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission. During the meeting, assurances were given that all necessary facilities would be provided.
He also said that, in discussions with the Supreme Cancer Council at Iraq's Ministry of Health, he had emphasised the need for the Kurdistan Region to be included in all joint projects involving radiotherapy for cancer treatment.
Dr Rashid noted that, following previous efforts, the Kurdistan Region had recently been included in two such projects. He said he had called for this participation to be extended to all future projects, both within Iraq and internationally.
