Under the supervision of the General Directorate of Archaeology and Heritage, renovating Akre's Qishla is continuing.
The Archaeological Directorate of Akre said in a statement that they are renewing the Qishla with 166,128,700 dinars on the budget of the Ministry of Municipality and Tourism, and are currently working in cooperation with the Duhok Archaeological and Heritage Directorate.
Akre's Qishla is located in Akre town of the Duhok Governorate. It is one of the buildings located in the Bazaar, the center of the town.
The word ‘Qishla’ is of Turkish origin which means a place where soldiers stay, a police station, or a military building. The Ottomans built many Qishlas in Iraq as a safe place for their soldiers, like Baghdad Qishla, Kirkuk Qishla, and the famous Akre Qishla among many others.
