Four Martyred in Kirkuk Clashes

Four members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have been killed as a result of the unfortunate events in Kirkuk. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is accused of wreaking havoc via political strife and party headquarters disputes.

According to information obtained by PUKMEDIA, an additional young man was killed during the clashes in Kirkuk, bringing the total number of fatalities to four and the number of injured to fifteen. All four martyrs were PUK comrades.

Due to the closure of the main road between Kirkuk and Erbil by demonstrators opposed to the evacuation of the Iraqi Joint Forces Command facility in Kirkuk and its transfer to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Kirkuk is experiencing instability.

Bafel Jalal Talabani, president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a statement expressing his concern over the tensions in Kirkuk, stating, "We condemn vehemently any attempts to harm brotherhood and coexistence in Kirkuk. Those responsible for killing and injuring our sons must be apprehended and brought to justice as soon as possible."

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani also called him. The two spoke about the situation in Kirkuk and highlighted the necessity for quick action to restore normalcy to the city. 

President Bafel emphasized the necessity for Kirkuk to remain united and peaceful during the call, and he urged the Iraqi Prime Minister to take all necessary precautions to thwart any attempts to divide the city and jeopardize the lives of its residents. In addition, he stressed that those who injured and killed Kurdish youths must be held accountable.

The PUK Political Bureau stated that the PUK has been in contact with the Iraqi government to fulfill its national and governmental responsibilities to prevent clashes and violence between Kurdish nationals and other communities.
