Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Rizgar Haji Hama, Head of the PUK's Election Bureau in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
Rizgar Haji Hama provided an update on the current preparations for the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan. He stated that the programmes and strategies discussed in the important meetings have been put into action, and the PUK is fully prepared for the elections.
President Bafel expressed gratitude to the officials and staff of the Election Bureau for their dedicated and effective work in the previous Iraqi provincial council elections. He specifically acknowledged their role in helping the PUK emerge as the leading Kurdish party during those elections.
In addition, President Bafel stated that the PUK is fully prepared for the elections and does not support any delay in the electoral process. He emphasised that any attempt to hinder this crucial process would undermine the people's will and the democratic progress in our region.
He stated: "It is imperative that all parties adhere to the date set by the commission, which serves as the authoritative and governing body for the elections. The deadline, which falls on September 5th of this year, leaves no room for any excuses to prolong the process. The PUK affirms its readiness for the elections on the specified date and welcomes the commission's recommendation."
The President of the PUK emphasised the need for all political parties to initiate a fresh stage of political engagement and collaborate towards fortifying Kurdistan and fostering a more promising future.
"Party objectives should not take precedence over national issues, and the lives of our citizens should not be entangled in unfair disputes," he stated.
"Following these steps requires courage, and the PUK is prepared," he added.
