Nearly 3 Million People are Eligible to Vote in Upcoming Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

A total of 2,899,578 individuals are eligible to participate in the sixth round of parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region. Among them, 2,683,618 individuals will vote in the general election, while 215,960 individuals will vote in the special election.
The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced that there are a total of 2,683,618 people who are eligible to participate in the general voting for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections. Specifically, there are 933,115 eligible voters in Erbil Province, 1,008,412 in Sulaymaniyah Province, 682,791 in Duhok Province, and 59,300 in Halabja Province.
The Kurdistan Region consists of four constituencies for the elections, each housing a total of 173 registration centres for general voting. Erbil has 53 centres, Sulaymaniyah has 74 centres, Duhok has 41 centres, and Halabja has 5 centres. Additionally, a total of 1,266 polling centres will be established, with 498 in Erbil, 477 in Sulaymaniyah, 264 in Duhok, and 27 in Halabja.
The statement indicates that a total of 6,318 polling stations will be established for voters, including 2,213 stations in Erbil and 2,373 stations in Sulaymaniyah. An additional 1,596 polling stations will be established in Duhok, while 136 polling stations will be set up in Halabja.
In its statement, IHEC also reported that there are a total of 215,960 eligible special voters in the four constituencies. The commission will also establish 109 registration centres across all four constituencies for special voters. The number of special voters in Erbil is 89,791, in Sulaymaniyah it is 78,661, in Duhok it is 40,956, and there are 952 special voters in Halabja. There will be a total of 34 registration centres in Erbil, 32 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Duhok, and one in Halabja.
The Commission will establish 165 polling centres exclusively for special voting in the Kurdistan Region. This will include 62 centres in Erbil, 57 centres in Sulaymaniyah, 33 centres in Duhok, and one centre in Halabja.
The total number of special polling stations across all four constituencies is 749 stations, with 306 polling stations in Erbil, 276 in Sulaymaniyah, 142 in Duhok, and 3 in Halabja.
The sixth session of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission has completed all necessary arrangements for the upcoming elections.
