A high-level delegation from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), headed by Ebru Günay, Co-Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, visited on Monday, 16 February 2026, the Kurdistani Relations Department of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
The delegation was received by Salar Sarhad Khalifa Younis, Head of the PUK’s Kurdistani Relations, where their discussions focused on efforts to restore stability in West Kurdistan (Rojava) and on the peace process in Türkiye.
During the meeting, Günay stressed that the support and solidarity of the Kurdish people across the north, south and east of Kurdistan for West Kurdistan had a significant impact on international public opinion.
She praised the role of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani in supporting the Kurdish people and their struggle in West Kurdistan. “President Bafel took ownership of the cause during the aggression against the Kurdish people in West Kurdistan. Through his diplomatic contacts, he secured solidarity and support for Rojava,” she said.
Günay also highlighted the historic role of President Jalal Talabani (Mam Jalal) and the PUK in advancing the peace process in Türkiye and North Kurdistan, noting that history will continue to recognise that contribution.
For his part, Salar Sarhad reaffirmed that the PUK considers support for the Kurdish people in Rojava a national duty. He welcomed the agreement between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Damascus government, expressing hope that its full implementation would bring peace and stability to the region and contribute to resolving the Kurdish issue within a new Syria.
He further stated that President Bafel had called on the United States to support Rojava in protecting civilians and ensuring stability since the beginning of the Damascus government’s attacks on areas under the Autonomous Administration.
