U.S. dollar and Iranian toman.
The exchange rate of the U.S. dollar and the Iranian toman hiked in the Kurdistan Region on Saturday, following renewed hostilities involving Iran and Israel.
Dr Shwan Mohammed, an economist, told PUKMEDIA that the sudden resumption of attacks had not been anticipated.
“It was not expected that the attacks between Iran, Israel and the United States would resume so abruptly,” he said. “These developments have directly affected currency prices in the Kurdistan Region’s markets, leading to a significant rise in the exchange rate of both the US dollar and the Iranian toman.”
The exchange rate has therefore risen from 153,250 Iraqi dinars per 100 U.S. dollars yesterday to 158,000 dinars today.
Meanwhile, the Iranian toman also fluctuated. The exchange rate stood at 13 million Iranian toman per U.S. dollar on Saturday, compared with 14 million toman the previous day.
Commenting on the situation, Dr Mohammed cautioned citizens against speculative currency trading.
“I urge citizens not to engage in currency exchange for profit,” he said. “In the past, following attacks involving the United States and Israel, fluctuations in currency, gold and silver prices caused significant losses for many people.”
The United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran on 28 February 2026. Iran responded by targeting several positions in Haifa and a number of US bases in the region.
