The Iraqi First Lady, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, has expressed deep sorrow and anger following a deadly drone attack that struck the village of Zargazawi near Erbil, killing two civilians.
In a statement, she said she shares in the grief and outrage over the killing of Moussa Anwar Rasoul and Mzhda Asaad Hassan, whose lives were tragically cut short in the strike. She extended her heartfelt condolences to their family, with particular sympathy for their daughters, who now face what she described as an immeasurable loss.
“No child should ever have to endure such pain, and no family should be shattered in this way,” she said.
The First Lady also voiced concern over the broader escalation of violence across Iraq, noting that more than 600 drone and missile attacks have been recorded in the Kurdistan Region alone.
She stressed that such attacks constitute a clear violation of international law and cannot be justified under any circumstances, calling attention to the urgent need to protect civilians and prevent further loss of life.
