PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
Marking the Anfal genocide, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), said the catastrophe remains a deep wound in the Kurdish conscience, while underscoring that it continues to inspire determination, unity and service to the people.
President Bafel's message on Anfal genocide read:
"Our profound wounds continue to inspire us to serve our people and our land with unwavering commitment. The crimes committed and the attempts to eradicate our people remain part of a painful history; yet they have also strengthened our national resolve and Kurdish identity—neither of which has ever been broken by any force.
The Anfal catastrophe and crime remains a profound and enduring wound in our hearts—a source of deep sorrow that will never fade. We will forever stand in remembrance, honouring the loss of our loved ones with solemn respect and unwavering dignity.
On this solemn occasion, we reaffirm our understanding of the profound grief and concerns of the families of the Anfal victims, whose dignity and resilience command our utmost respect.
The aim of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is to transform sorrow and suffering into hope, and to build a new life through unity and brotherhood—so that together we may serve our beloved people."
