Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region.
Marking the Anfal genocide, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, reaffirmed that continuing the struggle and strengthening Kurdish role within Iraqi decision-making centres remain the most effective means of preventing the recurrence of such crimes and safeguarding legitimate rights.
Deputy PM Talabani's message for Anfal read:
"The Anfal genocide, along with all crimes committed by the defunct Ba’ath regime against the Kurdish people, was the product of a chauvinistic mindset and fascist authority in Iraq. Just as we were able, through our long struggle and with the support of our allies, to overthrow the Ba’ath regime, today, through our continued and active presence in Baghdad and in cooperation with our friends and partners, we will not allow chauvinistic ideology to re-emerge in Iraq.
Continuing the struggle and strengthening our role within Iraqi decision-making centres remain the most effective means of preventing the recurrence of such crimes and safeguarding our legitimate rights.
On this day, we remember with the utmost reverence and respect the 182,000 martyrs of the Anfal genocide, and we pay tribute to the families of the martyrs and the steadfast survivors of the Anfal campaign."
