Qubad Talabani Receives Adnan Darjal to Discuss Development of Sport

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, and Adnan Darjal, President of the Iraqi Football Association.

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Adnan Darjal, President of the Iraqi Football Association, on Monday, 20 April 2026, and the two sides discussed the state of sport in Iraq and the Kurdistan.

During the meeting, Talabani congratulated the President of the Iraqi Football Association on the national team’s historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and commended his efforts in advancing Iraqi football.

Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad in order to further professionalise football, enhance the standard of clubs and develop strong infrastructure for the training and development of professional players.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Darjal presented Talabani with the Iraqi national team shirt and the official match ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
