The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has congratulated the Zhnan-Women’s Union of Kurdistan on the 37th anniversary of its establishment, praising its longstanding efforts to serve Kurdish women and defend their rights.

The full text of the congratulatory message reads:

To Ms Lava Hikmat, General Supervisor of the Kurdistan Women’s Union, and all members of the Union,

We extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to you on the 37th anniversary of the founding of the Zhnan-Women’s Union of Kurdistan, and wish you continued success and achievements.

The Zhnan-Women’s Union of Kurdistan was established during a particularly difficult period of displacement in the aftermath of the Anfal campaigns. It was the result of a courageous initiative by activist Hero Ibrahim Ahmed, with the support of Kafiya Sulaiman and their colleagues. The organisation subsequently became a cornerstone in strengthening Kurdish women’s capabilities in political and organisational fields.

Following the Raparin Uprising, the Union played a vital role in defending the rights of Kurdish women. It also made significant contributions to training and developing numerous cadres and specialists across professional, democratic and social fields, helping advance equality and strengthen women's rights.

Today, as the Union embarks on a process of organisational renewal, the introduction of a new and dynamic organisational structure has raised hopes for further progress and achievements within the women's movement. We are confident that the Union will continue to advance its work and respond effectively to the demands of the modern era.

We wish you every success in this new phase and pay tribute to the progressive struggle and continued efforts of the Kurdistan Women’s Union.

The Political Bureau
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
