The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has declared its decision not to participate in a proposed Kurdistan Parliament session scheduled for 4 November, describing it as unlawful and contrary to the principles of genuine partnership and national consensus.
The following is the full statement:
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The citizens of the Kurdistan Region are aware of reports that an unlawful session of the Kurdistan Parliament is due to be held tomorrow, 4 November 2026.
Firmly committed to the principles of the rule of law and national consensus, we consider this session illegitimate, contrary to the foundations of genuine partnership and an attempt to impose the will of one political party.
Accordingly, we wish to inform the citizens of the Kurdistan Region and all political forces that, in addition to our decision not to participate, we call on all patriotic individuals and national forces concerned with safeguarding the status and integrity of the Kurdistan Region not to attend this session.
There is no doubt that a parliamentary session derives its legitimacy and significance from national consensus and the free and democratic participation of all elected political parties. When the foundations of democracy are undermined through bribery, threats and psychological pressure aimed at influencing MPs’ decisions, we will not recognise any parliament or government emerging from such meetings under this superficial and illegitimate framework.
